Mix the way of a sports utility vehicle the size of a sports utility vehicle. Add the typical design of a prototype and use to taste the 231 horsepower 3.5-liter V6 engine. It’s like the recipe for a cake, but these are some of the ingredients of the Nissan Murano, a model produced in Japan for the North American market that eventually won the world and landed here in October last year. First shown in Brazil at the São Paulo Motor Show in 2004, the crossover was the first vehicle launched in the country that is part of the “Shift_Mercosul” program, the automaker’s market strategy to increase brand participation in the Mercosur and, mainly, change the image of Nissan. And despite the great proportions, the Murano is tamed in everyday, willing to gain speed at any time, easy to park (even without the parking sensor) and agile, incredible as it may seem. According to the measurements of the InstitutoMauá de Tecnologia (IMT), the model presents numbers of envy to many sports out there. With one foot in the mud and another on the asphalt, the vehicle has an angle of attack of 28º, exit angle of 25º and clearance of the ground of 1.75 meters. Credentials more  rv covers for sale enough to face a trail – although the suspension does not help much – or (closer to the reality of the model’s consumers) streets that are bumpy or flooded. The difficult thing is not to attract attention.

It’s a different car, this is not discussed. But to have an idea of   thismuranodifference, designers at Nissan Design America, the brand’s style center in San Diego (California, USA), swear that Murano’s inspiration was a football – can you believe it? Another curiosity: the name of baptism, refers to the pieces of crystals produced in Murano, an island in northern Italy. However, the crossover is not the first model of the brand to “evolve” objects. The Frontier also had an unusual source of inspiration: a boxing glove. Available in Brazil only in the colors silver and black (the gray did not come here), at first sight what is most striking are the chrome items. Starting with the front grille. With generous dimensions (4.77 meters in length, 1.88 m in width, 1.70 m in height and distance of 2.82 m in bends), the model transports five adults with plenty of space. With the seats in normal position, the trunk capacity is 480 liters and with the backrest folded, this volume rises to 880 l.

All this size is coupled with the refinement of luxury car. On the national market, the model is offered only in the SE version, which features leather seats, electric-powered sunroof, automatic air conditioning and Bose sound with CD changer for six discs, four speakers, two tweeters and one subwoofer . Both seats have electric adjustment of the distance and inclination of the backrest, but only the driver has complementary functions (height adjustment and lumbar support), plus two memory positions which, in addition to the seat, adjusts the pedals and the pedals. rearview mirrors. The internal finish is exquisite, abusing leather and aluminum applications. The driver has a multitude of buttons at his disposal, so that the on-board computer’s keys even remember a personal computer keyboard. In the fusion of styles, the dashboard contains gauges, speedometer and temperature indicators and fuel level circular, housed in a metallic box formed by straight lines, referring to utilities. The center console consists of several compartments covered by aluminum plates, worthy of a luxury sedan. It is also worth mentioning the enormous distance between the steering wheel and the windshield.

murano2If it were not for height, mixed-use tires and all-wheel drive, the crossover could be considered a minivan. That’s because the model runs smoothly in the city, even in heavy traffic. No wonder: Murano hides under the hood a 3.5 l V6, which does not shy away from consuming gasoline – by the way. Named VQ35DE, it is (basically) the same propeller of the 350Z, calibrated to reach 300 horsepower. This engine also equips other models Nissan and Infiniti. In the crossover, it was tuned to offer 231 hp at 6,000 rpm and torque of 32.42 kgfm at 3,600 rpm. Even weighing 2,380 kilos (gross weight plus load), Nissan impresses when it comes to acceleration. In the tests of 0 to 100 km / h performed by IMT, Murano needed only 9.84 seconds. And in the retakes the surprises continue. In order to accelerate from 40 km / h to 80 km / h it was necessary 5.97 if, in the measurements of 60 to 100 km / h, 6.98 s. One of the main responsible for these numbers certainly is the CVT Xtronic exchange (system similar to the one used in the second generation of Sentra), of continuously variable gears ratios. In addition to the automatic mode, the exchange offers manual sequential exchanges. Simply move the lever to the right side of the guide. There are six gears, indicated on the panel. Going back to the numbers, the Murano simply ignores its weight, size and power at the time of braking. At 60 km / h, the vehicle stops at 22.9 meters and, at 100 km / h, needs 56.1 meters. In other words, the Murano looks better than its mate-maker, the Sentra. The second generation of the sedan – lighter and much smaller than the crossover – brake at 23.4m and 60.8m, respectively.

One of the many attractions of the recent New York Hall was the new version of the Nissan Murano SUV developed by the styling department maintained in California by the American subsidiary of the Japanese automaker. Assembling subsidiaries of its engineering and styling departments in the United States, with American engineers and designers, was one of the secrets of Japan’s automakers like Nissan, Honda and Toyota to deliver custom designed vehicles to suit American consumer taste and conquer the local market. Thanks to that, car makers (when compared to the full size cars that prevailed in the United States) of strange and fragile looking design, Japanese brands in a few decades conquered the American market, the largest in the world at the time. Perhaps in no other market SUVs are as successful as in the United States, which makes model launching and upgrading a tricky task in which any error can lead to loss of share and millionaire losses. That’s why Nissan, which out there shows much more smoothly and offers a much broader and diversified product line than in Brazil, caprichou in every aspect of the new version of this mid-sized crossover, top of the line among the company’s SUVs , which also manufactures the Juke, the Qashqai and the X-Trail behaved.suv-murano

Striking style

Based on the Resonance concept, presented at the Detroit Motor Show last year, the Murano retains much of its aggressive styling and the crisp, fluid lines with steeply sloping front and rear, well-defined wheeled wheels with 18- or 20-inch wheels and behaved sportsmanship, in a well-balanced mix of the most striking points for the target audience. One is the large, well-inclined windshield that seems to continue all over the roof of the car thanks to the proximity to the two sunroofs to the front and rear of the passenger compartment. Under the hood, Nissan installed a balanced 3.5-liter V6, common to all versions of the Murano, which develops 260 hp, providing good torque and optimum fuel consumption. The shift is an automatic CVT and the AWD traction ensures well distributed force on all wheels. Soon the factory will launch the model in Europe, where a diesel engine version is planned and, later on, a hybrid propulsion.

It was in the style and the mechanical platform, it is in the interior that the automaker seems to have more, both in terms of space and comfort for the five occupants as well as finish and equipment, to the point of calling it “social lounge”, something as a social hall. Among the equipment offered by Nissan are 8-inch touchscreen multimedia panel with voice-activated 3D GPS, Bose sound with eleven speakers, pocketknife key with buttons that trigger doors, trunk and ignition, monitors with DVD players on the back of head restraints two 12V power outputs on the front and one on the rear, rear camera and more. The benches were designed incorporating technology developed for NASA, which reduces fatigue and muscular effort. The rear seats have electric drive, even to be folded. The list of safety equipment available for the occupants includes 360-degree view monitor, blind spot warning, emergency braking using the front brakes, predictive collision warning warning of rear cross traffic and more. Although the factory has announced that the new model is expected to be sold in more than 100 countries, at the moment there are no prospects of Murano being imported by Nissan into the Brazilian market. The automaker is focused on shipping higher-volume models, leveraging the capacity of the newly-opened Resende / RJ plant and should not compromise its import quotas with a model that would find well-established competition in a highly contested segment.
